Assignment 3A - My Entrepreneurship Story

Growing up and still to this day entrepreneurship has been all around me. Various family members have owned and still own their own businesses. I have had family members who have owned gas stations, jean manufacturing companies, and restaurants. Running and maintaining your own business is a lot of work. My stepfather owns two restaurants. He works six days a week and normally does not get home till about midnight each of those nights. There is certainly a lot of sacrifice that can come with being an entrepreneur. Below is a picture from the restaurant website.

Honestly, I enrolled in this class because it is a requirement for my degree. However, I am enjoying the way we are being encouraged to view entrepreneurship. Mr. Pryor stated, “we will approach entrepreneurship as a way of thinking and acting, as an attitude and a behavior,” and that is the insight I am looking forward to getting out of this class.

  1. I'm amazed that your stepfather can keep track of not just one but two restaurants! Your experience is similar to mine, in which I was closely involved with someone that went out on a limb to start their own restaurant - I ended up working for them for two years. I definitely was able to see first-hand that the work that goes into keeping track of a whole restaurant is not an easy feat.

  2. My story is similar to yours. My dad also owns his own business and works 5 days a week. He wakes up at 5am and gets back around 8 every night. A restaurant would be a whole lot cooler though. I can only imagine how obese I would be if a family member of mine owned a restaurant. whew.

  3. My parents also own their own business. Just like your stepfather, sometimes they don't come home until all hours of the night. I have so much respect for them and all of those that run their own business. I truly see how much their passion shines and how great of a work ethic they have. I try to instill the skills that my parents have in my everyday life so that maybe one day I can be as successful as they are. I would love to pay a visit to your stepdad's restaurants!
