Assignment 14A - Halfway Reflection

1. Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
  • As with anything in life, especially an online college course, utilizing effective time-management skills is an absolute must to survive! All of the assignments require writing, and a few require interviews. All of which, when done correctly, take time. Also, the lectures are at least a good hour and a half and it’s important to be on top of listening to them in a timely manner. Especially, since they will assist you in performing well on the cupcakes. Other behaviors that are useful are being persistence, effectively communicating (when needing assistance or clarification), staying motivated, and grit.
2. Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
  • Honestly, at the start of the course I felt like giving up – haha! I had so many other things going on that I felt overwhelmed. I was busy in my personal life, in the midst of opening a new store, managing and training employees, etc… A LOT! However, I never quit something once I start it. I am highly motivated and driven to succeed. I knew that I just had to utilize my time wisely and figure out a good schedule to balance it all. I’ve always had a tenacious attitude, so for me it was all about maintaining it all.
3. Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset'?
  • Time management – DON’T procrastinate! If you can work ahead, do so. It is helpful to look ahead at an assignment to access its’ level of difficulty or time requirement. In doing this, one can effectively schedule out the necessary time to complete the task on time.
  • Prioritize and communicate– Don’t allow other things that seem to be important at the moment get in the way of your academics. Also, make sure to prioritize your assignments within your classes. If you need assistance or clarification on something, reach out! Whether it is the professor, a TA, or another student, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Perseverance - DON'T GIVE UP! Keep pushing forward, step by step. You can do it!

  1. I couldn’t agree more in regards to needing to be secure with proper time management skills in this course! If I didn’t plan out the when to do the assignments for this class during each week I would drown. With everything else that goes on a semester, these smaller things add up so its important to spread them out and be wary of the deadlines.

  2. "utilizing effective time-management skills is an absolute must to survive!" is too true of a statement. I'm doing this at 2am because I completely overwhelmed myself with things to do over spring break haha. It's all about getting things done early, and keeping the right attitude to work on them! The minute you dread completing an assignment is the minute you lose your ability to work on it well.

  3. I definitely agree that time management is HUGE. I also felt like I wanted to give up at times, but I later found the posts to be somewhat therapeutic. Communication is also huge, within yourself and others. Sometimes I allow myself to slack but when I am honest about what needs to be done I can accomplish so much! I think as long as you don't spread yourself too thin, you can be super successful and also take pride in what you do.
